One Room Challenge OOO Week 2

Well, it’s week 2 of the Fall 2020 One Room Challenge - our Overdue Office Overhaul! or #OOO, and I’m dreaming of running away to a beach…

If you don’t know what the One Room Challenge is, or you want to get caught up on the super embarrassing BEFORE pictures, see our ORC Week 1 HERE.

So, what’s happened this week at the ORC OOO? Well, CHAOS. Chaos is what has happened this week. You know how they (whoever “they” are?!) say “it will get worse before it gets better”? Well, I don’t think worse was possible, but we have definitely not arrived at “better” yet either.

I did spend many hours shuffling things around, packing up recycling and getting rid of trash…all in a room that was NOT the office to make space to move the overflow styling and staging stuff OUT of the office. And I’ve moved a good chunk of the bulkiest items in that category into their {more or less} final resting place(s).

Hey, there WAS in fact a floor in here In the basement where staging and styling supplies are coming to live! YAY! So SLOW progress, but progress nonetheless….

If you haven’t met the Diva, you can read more about her in the spring 2020 ORC where we did her room AKA The Vintage Diva Glamour Den (and consequently why the schmutz all ended up down here!)

The armoire that used to hold an ancient TV and the kids video game stuff was emptied and repurposed to store (most of) the soft goods for staging projects.

Shelves of staging/styling supplies - these need a bit more “grab n go” container organization (and another bank of shelves) , but at least the stuff is ON the shelves and not the floor!

I apparently have a LOT of stuff….according to my son, master of understatement, who has been helping me schlepp said stuff…add to that the 7 trees, 14 wreaths, and 25 garlands that just arrived for one of our commercial Christmas decor installations, and that’s only the beginning. Shoot me now.

Believe it or not, this is actually progress! All the artwork, lamps, lampshades, candlesticks, bedding, and pillows have been exported, along with the giant bakers rack (now home to some of that stuff in another room). We can SEE THE FLOOR, such as it is. The fabric books are still all over the floor from the plumbing crisis last year and the walls need to be cleaned up and painted before they go back. And of course this obviously hasn’t been cleaned yet since we JUST unearthed the carpeting.

I’ve also been frantically trying to coerce a handyman into coming to repair the holes in the ceiling from diagnosing the heating issues and the subsequent plumbing leak a year ago. Yikes! It has been over a year that I haven’t been able to use this! Meanwhile, I’ve had some inspiration on some millwork I’d like to add to correct some of the awkward proportions in the room, so I’m hoping said handyman can handle that little project as well, because I have NO burning desire to learn how to use a miter box or install millwork myself!

I am trying to juggle this ORC gig alongside, you know, WORK that can’t wait. I am beginning to think I am officially insane for taking this on right now…but it will be awesome to have an actual office again…eyes on the prize…

Okay, so I’m fantasizing about getting rid of everything and running away to work from a beautiful beach somewhere!

Check in next week to see if we’re still alive, if we still have holes in the ceiling, and whether I have broken out the paint yet!
