Decor for Spring

Okay, it’s March, and we’ve had a couple of 50+ degree days in a row, which makes it feel like spring is right around the corner! I adore spring. It means we won’t freeze to death again for at least another 6 or 7 months. In the spirit of wishing spring into an early existence, I’m recommending some ways to bring spring into your home decor.

To be clear, I am NOT advocating adding cheap plastic flowers to your yard (like this decorative post where dusty relics apparently go to die at this oceanfront cottage!)

Nothing says spring like signs of life awakening in nature. Bring in flowers and natural elements to keep the spirit of spring in your house year round!

Spring Branches

As soon as the weather prompts the forsythia (or whatever YOU have in your yard or an unsuspecting neighbors yard) to show signs that it isn’t dead , I cut a bundle of branches and bring them inside to force the blooms early. No mystery here, I just put them in water in a warm house and voila they think it is spring and bloom, cheering up the whole room. If you don’t have access to live branches, there are some great looking faux branches available (great looking, being the operative phrase!) that have the added advantage of not dropping their flowers all over your living room when they go by! Pro Tip: The key to using faux flowers successfully is to use varieties that match the same season you would find real ones.

Spring Flowers

Grocery store tulips or daffodils herald spring in a delightful way and are a wonderful indulgence that remind me spring is imminent. Try single stems in an array of skinny jars arranged on a bookshelf or at table place settings, or an abundant bundle of them spilling out of a pitcher or vase. As soon as the lily of the valley appears in my yard I gather masses of them to arrange in a small teapot.

Another option best suited to good faux florals is a wreath or basket of flowers at your entry like the ones below (click on each image to purchase)

Garden and Nature Inspired Accessories

Style a table or shelf with nests and eggs under a cloche, moss spheres in a wooden bowl, or a pitcher of branches or pussy willows. Break out the spring motifs and colors in accent pillows or candles. And don’t forget the powder room with seasonal soaps and hand towels!
