Decorating with Fall Colors

The cooler weather of the fall season here often has us turning to the warmer seasonal colors to ward off the chill in the air.

If you’ve been reading this blog for any time now, you know I am a big advocate of seasonal decor that works with the design and colors in your home!  There is nothing worse than decor accents that clash with everything else in the room!   (And there are plenty of fall colors to choose from beyond orange if that doesn’t work for you)

But if you are craving the warmth of fall color, here is some inspiration straight from the best designer - nature!

Apple Colors

The yelllow-green and purple-red shades that appear in these Mcintosh apples are high contrast complementary colors that can add excitement and energy when combined in a room. Look for textiles or artwork that mixes these colors in various proportions, or paint walls or furniture in one of them, and use the other in some accent pieces.

Oak Leaf Colors

The leathery tan of fall oak leaves is a perfect warm color. Use these colors to envelope walls for a cozy feel, add it in buttery soft leathers, or sisal textures and rich warm wood tones.

Chrysanthemum Colors

Fall is definitely mum season and they come in many colors from sophisticated maroons to playful brights. Use these salmon and peach tones for a cozy and flattering bedroom.

Goldenrod Colors

Warm golds and yellows are quintessential fall colors that add a sunny and warm quality to any room. On the walls, in the furnishings, in woven sisal or bamboo textures, or in metal accents, these colors can mix happily in many rooms!

Golden tones in the patterned linen panels, in the bamboo shades and on the gilded rods warm up the cooler tone on the walls in this bedroom.

Aster Colors

Another fall flower, asters, come in whites, pinks, and these striking periwinkle shades. We don’t often think of fall colors as including blues and purples, so these are the perfect fall color for you if your favorite colors are more in the direction of those calming tones rather than the warmer reds, yellows, and oranges! These pair beautifully with greens (natures neutral), of course, but work well with many other colors too.

Pumpkin Colors

And of course, that icon of autumn, the pumpkin is an essential element in the list of nature inspired fall colors! Orange has the electric capacity to enliven any room! Lacquer furniture in this shade to give a staid room a kick, or cover the walls in orange for a spicy warm glow. Pair it with a deep blue green for the perfect contrast.
