One Room Challenge Dressing Room Do Over REVEAL!

Aaaaand it is finally time…the REVEAL post for the One Room Challenge Dressing Room Do Over is done - so grab a cup of tea and check it out!

Thank you to the One Room Challenge and media sponsor Better Homes and Gardens for the opportunity to finally finish this space, and to wallpaper sponsor Brewster Wallcovering for the spectacular closet wallpaper.

If you’ve been following along, you’ve seen the disaster we started with (check out Week 1 if you missed it!), and the pieces we were keeping.  As with all projects, there was a tiny bit of “scope creep”.  The Dressing Room is really one half of the Primary Bedroom, so new window treatments in the dressing room necessitated new window treatments in the bedroom…and, okay, maybe not strictly necessary, but new lamps as well :)

To catch up on the 8 week challenge you can read what has happened in the previous weeks here:

Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4/5 | Week 6 | Week 7

The three main pieces of this project were, new window treatments, a completely remade ottoman, and a totally new buildout of the existing 13 foot closet - including rehabbing the wretched bifold doors into something useful that no longer evokes curse words at 7 am!

And just in the nick of time, we have accomplished all three! The curtains went in the end of this week, the ottoman was picked up early this week, and my long-suffering fantastic carpenter, Ralph, put the finishing touches on the magnetic latches on the doors this morning?!

So without further ado, here are the reveal pictures!  (I will update with professional photography when the fabulous trim comes in to add to the ottoman and drapery panels.)

My GORGEOUS grown up curtains in the prettiest embroidered linen…

floral embroidered linen drapery panels are a perfect match for the wall color and add a bit of pretty sophistication to the room.

Dressing room custom drapery panels are lined and interlined for soft pleats and elegant weight. They break on the floor for a luxurious finish that also adds some flexibility to shift the rod height later when we upgrade the hardware.

My adorable flower shaped ottoman, which was totally rebuilt by my genius upholsterer, Danny, so that it is rock solid. I had it reupholstered in this performance fabric since it will be really used now that it can accommodate more than a few pounds (?!) and is not just decorative any more!

That is the face of ottoman bliss!

And finally my fabulous custom fitted closet.  The built-ins are painted in white and stand out against the dramatic deep teal wallpaper lining the walls.  My favorite color family, this wallpaper makes me happy every time I open the closet doors!

Actually, just opening the doors makes me happy every time. The bifold doors were turned into double hinge-pinned doors with the addition of framed pegboard on the interior and magnet catches.  My carpenter Ralph, who is meticulous because he started life as an engineer, adjusted them to line up perfectly (for the first time in 20+ years?!).  Now they not only store an abundance of hats, belts, and bags, they operate smoothly and easily too!

And the interior? …Floor to ceiling shoe shelves (the diva is muy jealous), double hanging space with a shelf divider means nothing gets caught in the hangers below, single hanging space with a shelf above,

…and the pièce de résistance, my built in cabinet with shallow jewelry drawers and a scarf storage pullout for my collection! I am in closet heaven.

I mentioned scope creep…well this is the pair of bedside lamps that jumped in my cart while I was innocently shopping for lamps for a client project (#ithappens!). Shopping online is always a little dicey where colors are involved because pictures are routinely retinted, but it turns out they could not be more perfect with my beloved Palladian Blue walls.!

There is, of course, always more to do - the bedding needs an upgrade as does the drapery hardware, but for now I am relaxing…with a cup of tea, of course, and reveling in the wonders of a dressing room that works!

Special thanks to the team that made this all possible:
