2023 Color Trend Forecast

We are barely halfway through 2022 and already there are Color Trend predictions for 2023, can you believe it?

And while these patterns are interesting to watch, and indeed a whole industry is devoted to watching and predicting them - it’s a bit chicken-and-egg.  Product colors are influenced by trend predictions, and trend predictions are based on consumer and product behaviors.

All that to say - these are the colors families we expect will be rising in popularity and availability in the coming year, so if one of these is a favorite for you, you are in luck!  But as always, your choices should reflect what resonates with you.

WGSN (Worth Global Style Network), an international trend forecasting organization, in conjunction with Coloro announced the colors expected to be hot for 2023: They are:

Digital Lavender, Luscious Red, Sundial, Tranquil Blue and Verdigris.

While these are used as predictors for brands most especially in the fashion industry, they eventually make their way to other products and branding including interiors and home fashion.

There is something for everyone here, from calming blue or lavender to tropical reds and teals, as well as earthy gold tones.

The top left corner of each image is the Coloro library color, and the 5 swatches surrounding it are Benjamin Moore paint colors in the same family.

Digital Lavender

Digital Lavender is an indication that all things in the purple family will continue gaining in popularity.  This is a more mid-tone lavender not as blue as Very Peri, Pantone’s color for 2022, but not veering into the pink category either. Try out one of these shades as an accent - for a front door color, say, or a piece of upholstery or a throw pillow, or dive in and paint the walls!

This color has a special place in my heart as it was the color I chose for my childhood bedroom once I was given a choice :).

Luscious Red

Luscious Red is a warm playful color, a watermelon red verging on pink it is at once rich, and tropical.  Use a little to add some fresh energy to a space, or use a lot to up the drama.

Sundial

Sundial is a rich warm gold that calls to mind the saturated colors of turmeric, buttery leather, and natural grasses and reeds.  Use it in wicker and bamboo furnishings, woven wood shades, or leather wrapped pieces.  Or plunge in with walls and woodwork in a cozy sunny hue.

Tranquil Blue

Tranquil Blue is from the enduring classic blue family.  Reminiscent of water and sky, it creates soothing calm and injects a sense of stability - an appealing notion in our chaotic world.

Verdigris

Verdigris is probably my personal favorite.  A rich teal blue green, it is the color family I always gravitate toward.  It combines the tranquility of blue with the life force of green.  Go with a softer version for less intensity, or go all in with the saturated color for more vibrancy.

While these colors are predicted trends and will likely show up with more frequency in consumer goods, that is not an indication that you must start over and redecorate your home to be “in style”.

Go with your instincts for a color direction that appeals to you.  Personal choice is diverse and paramount these days, finally.  We are no longer limited by trends. Explore them or ignore them - the choice is ALWAYS yours!
