On the Drawing Board; A Vibrant Entry

We are currently working on plans for a fabulous foyer.  The entrance to a house it so important - from the outside approach to just inside the front door, this is where first impressions are made and the mood of the house is set.

Our current foyer project, prompted by an upcoming event the family is hosting, is the next space we are doing as we work our way through this gracious home to make it as fresh and vivacious as the large family that lives there.

Existing Conditions

It has a lot going for it - beautiful millwork, lovely proportions, classic light fixtures, a sweeping curved staircase and marble floors.  BUT it isn’t nearly as memorable or inviting as it could be, and we want to change that!

Walls and Furnishings

The fastest way to instantly give it some personality is with a smashing wallpaper. We offered two options that introduce the color story of the home.  One was love at first sight for the foyer and the other is the perfect solution for a future project.

The colors for the space include fresh greens, pinks, and yellows with white, black, and metallic accents in gold tones.

Small changes with important impact include adding a round entry table to mimic the curve of the staircase, along with a couple of stools. The table will be a perfect spot for a dramatic floral display to welcome guests.

We recommended personalizing the round table we specified with a bit of decorative gilding at the banded edge and feet to elevate it from ordinary to special.

Every entry should have a mirror as well, and this one is no exception.  In addition to bouncing light around the space it affords a last minute vanity check on the way to or from the door for both homeowners and guests.

Scale is so important, especially in a foyer with the generous volume that this one has, so furnishings and accessories and even the wallpaper pattern all need to be fairly significant to not look like ditzy doll furniture.

Chic Details

An easy and chic option includes painting the banister and newell posts as well as the interior of the entry door in a glossy black to stand out from all the white millwork.

A custom runner in a tone on tone neutral will span the space and serve as an entry mat as well.  An animal print stair runner with black tape binding would be a striking addition to the curved staircase.

We can’t wait to see this all come together - it will be SUCH a different mood! Classic and timeless, but with a joyful personality that can’t help but elicit a smile!!
