ORC Kitchen Refresh Part 2
Finally, as promised, the rest of my kitchen refresh!
I did a makeover of my own woefully dated kitchen for the One Room Challenge last fall, but was only able to photograph some of it for the reveal deadline since stuff happens and we couldn’t get the backsplash and hood installed in time.
BUT, it was all done before the holidays and I have been thoroughly enjoying it ever since…and I was finally able to come up for air this weekend to photograph the missing pieces!
So here is part two of the reveal of my bistro inspired kitchen refresh.

I refreshed my dated honey oak cabinets, table, and porch door with paint, added trim to extend the cabinets to the ceiling, added mirror to the glass front cabinet doors, built an alcove for the new fridge, and replaced the demon possessed over-the-stove microwave with a pretty hood.
And I finally, after 30 years (?!), got a proper backsplash. I used a classic subway tile on the stove wall and had a shaped backsplash fabricated out of the countertop material for behind the sink. The shape mirrors the cabinet hardware shape.

I luuuurve this Thibaut pattern so much! I used it for both the wallpaper on the back of the open shelves and for the custom valance over the new bay window.
I also adore my new polished nickel bridge faucet.
My whole starting point for the kitchen was the hood, which was a saga all by itself but ultimately I got my favorite curved chimney shape and the scallop detail gold accents that I wanted to incorporate. You can see all the gritty details about how in the links in the first post, but here she is…
I also switched from my gas stove, which I loved but which was barely limping along, to a new induction stove. It has taken some adjusting (and also new pans!), but it I love it. And making caramel on it is a dream! It got a heavy workout for our annual Nutcracker Sweets Party!
We created a new refrigerator alcove with a deep shelf above it that houses storage baskets. This is where I store all my cookie decorating supplies 😁. Those baskets are full of cookie cutters and food coloring and icing sugars and piping bags!

And here is the view from the hall doorway that greets me every morning now!
