Decorating with Scalloped Motifs
I was reminded once again this week how much I love scallop motifs.
A dear client reached out to share about a gift of a Weezie bathrobe she just received to make sure I knew about the company because it is awash in scallops!
The towels are bordered with scalloped edges outlined in contrasting banding, and even the bathrobe has scalloped edges. Weezie…scallops and monograms, be still my southern-born heart!
It’s not the first time a client has sent a scallop alert either! I received a cryptic email one day with a picture of toilet paper from a client I had done a long-distance powder room consult for.
The reason for the image? She had just discovered that Charmin makes a toilet paper that is perforated to tear in a scalloped pattern and she knew I would want to know…and she was not wrong! Give me ALL the scallops!
Scallops have been trending in interiors for several years now as you can see in these pictures from High Point Market. While I am glad that makes them more prevalent, I don’t care if they are on trend or not - they are a classic and ALWAYS on trend for me!
I have more than my fair share of scalloped items already, because I cannot resist the motif. If you follow this blog, you’ve already seen the scalloped hood detail in my newly refurbished kitchen.
And the scalloped trim I found in Germany that I sewed on the edge of the chandelier shades in that same room.
And, you may have seen glimpses of my scalloped coffee table, an ugly leather-look table that I bought for the size and shape and had painted. Now done in a chic black with gold detailing and a hand painted vine with berries and flowers and the occasional surprise ladybug and butterfly, it is the one thing my daughter wants to go to her when I die 🤣.
And my living room drapes are edged in scalloped trim and my favorite wing chair has a slipcover with a scalloped hem made from a matelasse coverlet with a scalloped border!
Pretty much every time I buy bedding, it is scalloped. My bed currently has an ancient mateless coverlet and shams with scalloped borders - they are getting old and beyond repair, so I’ll have to replace them soon, but not until I find something I like as well - which means scalloped.
Also, I have too many dishes, platters and cake pedestals with scalloped edges to enumerate!
