A Roundup of Bathroom Design Ideas

We have bathrooms (and kitchens!) on the brain as we are headed to KBIS (the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show) this week. It’s an opportunity to connect with our industry friends from all over the country and to learn about about new products from our trusted brands as well as discover new vendors!

We have designed SO many bathrooms in the last few years.  I am also overdue for a refresh in my own primary bathroom that we added 30+ (?!) years ago, but that is a story for another day.

From powder rooms to guest baths, to new construction, to primary baths carved out of borrowed space, we’ve tackled it all.

I thought in honor of KBIS this week, it might be fun to do a whirlwind tour of a few of these projects.

There are links (click the highlighted text) for each project to a post with more pictures and information if you want to dive a little deeper into something that captures your interest!

Powder Rooms

Powder rooms are an opportunity to add elegance, drama, or personality to your home.  By nature these are small spaces so your investment goes further.  It’s a great place to indulge in a pricey wall covering, tile, millwork, or fabric since you need so much less quantity than you might in a larger room.

Elegant neutrals, new millwork and a metallic ceiling elevated this powder room to new design heights.

Timeless and classic black and white toile added personality to this powder bath from our Gentleman’s Farm project completed a decade ago.

Colorful wallpaper and paint added drama to these powder rooms and this pocket sized one tucked under the stairs

A large graphic print wallpaper and newly painted existing vanity along with new mirror, faucet, countertop, lighting, and hardware turned this powder bath from ho hum to striking

Guest Baths

Guest baths, like powder rooms tend toward smaller spaces and are often less frequently used so bolder choices that might be too much in a primary bath are often welcome in a guest bath.

A feature wall of rustic teal tile and a leafy wallcovering made this guest bath a standout

An abundance of black glossy millwork makes a striking statement in this guest bath

This pretty guest bath tucked under the eaves features a beautiful stone counter and classic herringbone tiled floor.  The problem of a short amount of vanity wall space was solved with a round mirror that fits the space and pivots for ease of use.

Classics like a Carrara console sink and basketweave tile floor paired with cobalt picket shower tile and a fun wall covering to make this basement guest bath a favorite

Primary Baths

Primary baths are all about beautiful functionality and a touch of indulgence.  These are spaces that are used everyday and can make the difference between a smooth and pleasant introduction to the morning and a fraught and frustrating one!

Careful planning to anticipate the particular needs of the homeowner are paramount in these spaces, and an atmosphere that supports well-being is imperative.

Elegant neutrals, thoughtfully planned cabinetry, and a new roomy shower made this classic primary condo bath (which our client refers to as her “Neiman Marcus” bath 😂) into a supremely beautiful and functional space.

This brand new neutral primary bath in a renovated antique farmhouse was enlivened with a wall of a beautiful water jet mosaic tile at the vanity, carefully planned so the pattern lines up with the fixtures perfectly. It also features a shaped backsplash and wall mounted faucets for a touch of elegance.

For these primary baths (and a guest bath) from projects over a decade ago, we used millwork to frame mirrors over the vanity. Classic design is timeless.

This primary bath was taken from dated and a bit cramped, to a spa-like, serene, and luxurious space grounded in warm neutrals and wood tones.

This new, luxury primary bath was created by carefully combining two back-to-back cramped and lackluster bathrooms.  Black and white in 3 types of tile, vanity cabinetry, fabric, trim, and two wallcovering patterns were deployed to dramatic effect for a fabulous finish!

We have more bathroom projects in the works that we look forward to sharing in the coming months.

And, of course, we will be sharing the latest - both the wacky and the wonderful from the KBIS show! We’ll also be sharing our finds on IG during the show, so be sure to follow us there as well.
