Seen Around Town: Ballard Designs New Retail Store

FINALLY!  After years of poring over the Ballard Designs catalog and absorbing the pretty vignettes, the catalog has come to life right here in New England!  A new Ballard Designs retail store has opened  at the Natick Mall.  It is a breath of fresh design air after years of proliferating Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware stores.  While the quality level and prices are all similar, the ingredients are a bit more classical than Pottery Barn and a bit more varied than Restoration Hardware.

There are, of course, beautifully displayed shelves of accessories - like this blue and white display with tableware, pillows, garden stools and ginger jars...

and these oversize pears, rattan woven chargers and placemats, and a lovely line of Meri Meri paper goods...the scalloped and striped paper plates and napkins are ADORABLE.

And then there is the bedding. Limited options, but all with a variety of coordinating pieces and beautiful details like the ties on these ticking stripe shams and duvet cover...

Or the covered buttons and frog closures on these throw pillows and this playfully shaped carved wood headboard sporting a roosting bird.

And did I mention the monogramming?  Being an absolute SUCKER for anything monogrammed, I was delighted to discover they have a monogram machine right in the store and can monogram pretty much any of your textile purchases right there!

There are, of course, also a number of furniture displays including upholstered seating, attractive dining tables, chairs and stools....

and even an upholstered banquette!

There are case pieces as well - a small variety of bookcase and storage pieces, and chests like this well priced pretty mirrored one that would make an excellent nightstand for a touch of glamour.

And there is, currently at least, a spectacular display of outdoor furniture and accessories.

They have quite a few of their modular home office pieces on display as well, like this partners desk, hutch, and bookcases from their Tuscan collection.

While I prefer a more personalized approach to home design that uses a variety of sources for a unique and beautiful result, Ballard is a nice possible resource for some of those elements (did I mention they do monogramming??!).  Wandering through the displays can spark inspiration and it is, undeniably,  fun to finally be able to see the catalog come to life!
