Seen Around Town: sexy chair legs ...

It's almost summer, which seems like the right time of year to show a little leg...

In the world of design, I am in favor of a mix of leggy and skirted pieces in any room.  Legs give pieces a lighter, less bulky feel.  That said, the choice of styles available is vast!  So, without further ado, here is a round up of some of the options spotted recently at the Boston Design Center.

Simple tapered feet wearing brass cup "shoes" work beautifully with this clean-lined chair, or this contemporary take on a wing chair,

while the recessed detail on these tapered feet add a touch of refinement to this club chair.

And this tiny inlaid band which looks like brass but is actually a lighter wood elevates the style of this simple slipper chair.

This classic inlaid tapered leg and spade foot bring a traditional sensibility to a modern upholstered dining chair making it a perfect transitional piece.

Some legs are an integral part of the frame  - as is the case on these wood framed upholstered pieces - where the frame and leg shape and finish help dictate the personality of the piece.

And then there is this hybrid leg that is part of the frame though it is not an entirely wood framed piece.  The fluted, tapered leg extends all the way up to the arm giving it a long sleek line that perfectly fits this sexy accent chair.  The addition of nail heads highlight the shape.

Metal feet and frames can add personality to the mix as well.

Like the whimsey of this boxy contemporary sofa balanced on inset U-shaped metal legs...

or the sculptural quality of this metal accent chair.

Not to be forgotten, here are a couple of stools with interesting shapes that rely primarily on the legs and stretchers for their style.

And finally, when the sea of legs gets to be too much of a good thing, don't forget to mix in some skirted pieces!  Skirts CAN be just as interesting as flashing a little leg - just add  dressmaker details like the covered buttons shown on this corner pleat, or the waterfall skirt shown on this elegant club chair to elevate your skirted pieces.

There are SO many options when choosing seating pieces, and interesting legs and upholstery details are a great way to add style to your room!
