Seen Around Town: Stunning Chandeliers and Lanterns

For many of our design projects, we need to specify new lighting.  Recently, we have been on the hunt for chandeliers and lanterns and wanted to share some of our finds!

Trying to avoid another fussy crystal or ubiquitous barrel stave chandelier we found these classic alternatives to be a refreshing change.

This Paris flea market chandelier is a clean lined classic.  We used a pair of these over a 20 foot table in an enormous dining room.  The lines are formal without being fussy and the crystal beads catch the light.  We added black chandelier shades lined in gold to the candles for a perfect finishing touch that casts a soft warm glow.

This metal chandelier is a great mix of formal and rustic, with it's lightly scaled ironwork frame and gilded leaf and swag accents. It would be equally at home over a dining table, bed, or seating group!

This chandelier, with it's curvy gilded frame, and judiciously placed crystals, is slated to add sparkle and elegance to the vaulted ceiling of a master bedroom project in progress.

And this antique brass beauty from Circa is the perfect finish over the dining table in a current condo project. The detailing is classic but streamlined and works well with both traditional and transitional furnishings.  The shades lend balance and soften the light.

Lanterns are a perfect option for foyers, powder rooms, kitchen islands or breakfast rooms.  Here are a few favorites:

This limed oak color of this lantern is a great neutral finish, and the arches and ovals in the metalwork would be a perfect accompaniment to a room with an oval mirror.  Alas, it is too big for the powder room where I would like to use it!

This charming gilded lantern is made special by the whimsical bird and leaf details.

This lantern is available in several finishes - the rich antique gold finish is shown here.  The fretwork design has a fresh feel and would pair equally well with chinoiserie or garden themed elements.

Light fixtures are the ultimate marriage of function and design, and the details matter.  From the size and shape, to the choice of finish, to the addition of shades (or not), to the type of lightbulbs, all of these decisions affect the successful outcome of a well-designed room.  Choose wisely!
