Tea Time Magazine - I had never heard of it until my blogging soul-sister, Barbara, (from Mantel and Table) on the other side of the country offered me her free gift subscription. A magazine devoted to tea? How could I not?
I am a recovering magazine addict - I spent years hoarding every shelter and food magazine I came across in the checkout line at the grocery store or the magazine section of the bookstore.
Now, I am much more discerning. I have moved to digital versions of most things, but magazines just don’t feel right to me in digital form and I much prefer the old-fashioned print versions.
The ritual of afternoon tea is one of my favorite pastimes and by my estimate, the best export from the British Isles (Pierce Brosnan notwithstanding). So this was a no brainer for me.
My first issue of Tea Time arrived the other day, and while it is not a hefty tome by any stretch, what it does contain is interesting and inspiring.
Beautiful photography of themed tea tables complete with all the attendant recipes got my attention immediately, but I also learned a bit about the art of turning tea plants into tea and why some teas might be better quality than others in one of the articles.
There were three themed teas included in this issue - a Wimbledon tea, a Mothers Day garden tea, and an All American tea…that last one has inspired me to think about planning an afternoon tea for flag day on June 14th for my next entertaining fete..the tater tot mini cheeseburger skewers are an irresistible idea.
In addition to the informative articles and the inspirational tea ideas, there was also an article reviewing various tearooms in Vienna…and now I REALLY want to travel…
This magazine comes out 6 times a year, though the next issue will be skipped as the magazine rebrands to expand with more pages and a larger, more luxurious format. I can’t wait to see what the fall issue holds!
