We recently finished a renovation project of a powder room. The original powder room was an interior space with no windows, high ceilings - for that elevator shaft vibe - builder basic white walls and fixtures, and an uninspired faucet, mirror, and light fixture.
The homeowners wanted a vanity for storage of extra supplies, and a bit more character than the all white bland space offered.

The remaining public rooms that we have been working on are done in blues with green and blue-green accents. The luxury vinyl plank flooring in a medium-light brown extends into the powder room.
We decided to add a vanity with drawers for the storage the clients wanted, and a system of millwork panels to break up the vertical height and correct the scale of the room.
Green, the accent color in the adjacent great room, would be the main color in this space. There is always anxiety when renovations are coming together in bits and pieces - especially ones with bold color choices like this one - but don’t judge until everything is in place. The end result is always worth it!
Wallpaper was selected in a vibrant tropical leaf pattern with all the colors from the rest of the rooms. We chose a medium green from the wallpaper for the paint for all the millwork, and a sunny yellow from the wallpaper for the ceiling.
A gold finish is featured on the faucet, cabinet hardware, accessories and light fixture for a warm, refined look. The light we chose references the tropical wallpaper with a fun pineapple leaf motif.
A wide swath of molding and picture rail visually lowers the ceiling, and a series of stacked panels marches around the small space enhancing the horizontal lines that correct the proportions from elevator shaft to elegant. The upper panels contain the patterned wallpaper.
The white background of the wallpaper helps keep the room light.
Normally, I like to use a decorative mirror flanked by side lights over a bathroom sink, but in this case, the tight space was better served by a different solution.
The panel above the narrow vanity is filled with a bevel edged plate mirror and the light fixture is mounted right through the mirror. This not only suits the narrow space and allows uninterrupted rhythm of the molding panels, by mounting the light right on the mirror, it effectively doubles the light output reflected into the room.
The subtle stone countertop is backed by a shaped backsplash. The sink faucet is an elegant lever handled Brizo in a gold toned finish.
The handle for the false top drawer of the vanity serves as a hand towel bar. Extra towels hang on a towel bar on the opposite wall.

The end result is such a departure from the bland personality-free builder basic white powder room we started with!
