The big announcement from Benjamin Moore came at noon…this is the last {I think} of the paint company announcements for Color of the Year 2027. The only big one left is the Pantone COTY which usually comes in late December and is more general and less interior-decor-specific.
In general, color of the year announcements are part marketing pizzazz and part a prediction of the mood and trends around the globe. Committees look to culture, historical events, psychological trends and the arts to find commonalities that point to a particular color choice.
Perhaps it is a reaction to the terminally online/AI craze and the admonition to “touch grass”. Or perhaps it is a desire for the calm rhythm of nature in our chaotic world. And, more hopefully, it is perhaps a nod to a desire for the growth of something new out of the rubble.
The COTY anouncement
I predicted it would be a blue or green since those have been trending in nearly all the announcements that haven’t been neutrals. And I was correct - it is a medium toned spruce green called Webster Green. I love all things green, blue and blue-green. They are classic and timeless and work in a variety of situations, so I am a fan of this pick.
Here’s the reasoning behind this selection from the Benjamin Moore website:
“The green color family’s ability to adapt and transform makes it incredibly timeless. Sitting at the center point is Webster Green HC-130, a mid-tone that serves as a reminder of the past but feels right and relevant today.”
- Andrea Magno, Vice President of Brand, Color, and Integrated Marketing
This particular shade of green has a hint of a gray-blue tinge to it - so more toward the spruce green family.
How to use Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2027
I’ve, once again, generated a number of AI images to see how it would work in various rooms.
I always like the use of green for kitchen cabinets. It goes well with food, for one thing! And it mixes beautifully with wood and stone tones happily since it is a quintessential nature color as shown in the imagined kitchen below.

And it is a natural for a library, of course. We used a similar but slightly more spruce green for this pocket library under the eaves. You can see more of this pocket library project HERE

Webster Green is also a nice pairing with natural brick as an exterior accent color. Here we created an ai image to show it highlighting the entry on a brick facade.
Paint Pairings for Webster Green
Green pairs well with almost any other color, but here are some specific paint colors that could mix with it as accent or trim or ceiling colors.
