It’s THAT time of year again…spiced pumpkin flavored everything (if that’s your thing) and warm cider donuts (arguably the best thing about fall IMO!), AND new seasonal decor for the exterior of your house.
Adding seasonal door decor is an easy way to create a welcoming introduction to your home for family and friends. Here is a roundup of my entry decor from various years.
The tried and true decor for fall, and I am talking fall here, not Halloween decor, which I personally loathe, involves autumnal shades and seasonal flowers and gourds.
I change over my window boxes in the fall to brim with an assortment of faux pumpkins, and sprigs of faux fall leaves. These have served me well for over 10 years!
The front door, now that we are safely out bird nesting season, gets a beribboned hanging basket or tin filled with faux flowers and branches.
And the front steps get urns with fall arrangements and a couple of large pumpkins, which I rarely bother to carve because they rot too fast when I do and I want them to last into November if possible.
I have, in year past, fastened dried cornstalks to the posts. Now I’ve trained wisteria vines up them, so that no longer works here.
The back deck sometimes gets falls plants in the pots and an assortment of pumpkins and gourds too. The squirrels generally feast on my pumpkins before I am really ready to part with them, but such is the burden of living in what seems like the squirrel and chipmunk capital of the world.
I love real pumpkins and all their unique shapes and colors, but I may resort to faux pumpkins for my steps too, at some point, just so they don’t get eaten by the local fauna?!
