Looking for some inspiring and informative summer reading? Love a fresh take on traditional style? Style icon Corey Damen Jenkins has a new book coming out and it promises to be spectacular.
I first heard Corey speak at an industry conference a few years ago, and he is a compelling storyteller…which is, I suppose, the essence of being a designer.
Designers are all visual artists whose job it is to tell the story of a place. The vocabulary we use is defined by the spaces AND by the people that will inhabit them.
Corey is not only an incredibly talented designer with a flair for colorful, dramatic twists on classic design, he also seems to be a genuinely kind human.
Corey popped up on my radar again recently when I heard him interviewed on LuAnn Nigara’s podcast, A Well-Designed Business. And he has been BUSY - with a thriving internationally renowned design practice, multiple licensing deals, a masterclass course, and now a second book and a video series, I find myself wondering when he has time to sleep!
I’ve just been poring over his first book, Design Remix, in preparation for his second one, being released this fall.
Design Remix is packed with the expected glossy photos of inspiring interiors. One of the not-to-be-missed ones is a stunning green bathroom with a library wall surrounding the freestanding tub!
But these are interspersed with an honest origin story, design philosophy musings, and sage design sound bites that can help every aspiring decorator and homeowner make better choices.
His new book, Design Reimagined, is {brilliantly} timed to be released just as the companion video series chronicling one of the projects from the book wraps up in early September.
Like everything Corey does, the video series is spectacularly produced and features the quietly charming and effortlessly elegant Corey explaining the design process and sharing practical takeaways for each space.
The series follows a particular project room by room with a peek behind the curtain at the real life client conversations and the rationale behind the design process. Episodes average around 10 minutes and each focus on a particular room, showing the completed room at the end of each segment. The concluding episode promises a tour of the whole house.
I’ve been enjoying the videos series and am totally looking forward to Corey’s new book - I just preordered it!
