Scenic murals can be a great solution to add style to a room.
Classic applications can be seen in any number of historic traditional homes often in foyers or dining rooms, but they can work equally well in living spaces and bedrooms.
There are styles from realistic to painterly and even whimsical contemporary to classic traditional.
Scenic murals run the spectrum from relatively inexpensive printed ones available at online retailers, to printings of handpainted artworks from Gracie Studios and Susan Harter.
Some high end murals, properly prepared, can even be stripped and reused.
We used a budget version of a mural from Wallmur several years ago for a feature wall of magnetic panels with a tree/garden landscape scene and added tree branch hooks with magnets to create a movable display for vintage hats that appeared to be hanging from the tree branches.
You can see that bedroom design here and the process of creating a magnetic mural wall here.
The budget end of the spectrum was needed for that particular project and the company was responsive and easy to work with allowing us to specify the size and exact portions of the mural that we wanted.
The caution though, is that while the small sample was reasonably crisp, the blown up version is quite a bit lower resolution so appears a bit more pixelated than would be ideal.
At the other end of the spectrum is a bedroom project we are working on with a Susan Harter watercolor landscape mural. They, too, have a variety of standard sizes they print at from the original artwork and they can also custom size to any height you like.
They also allow customization to work around doors and windows or to position favored elements prominently in the space.
For this space with high ceilings, we are creating panels to fill with sections of the mural. This will have the effect of large format artwork on the main wall of the bedroom. Here are sketches with a couple of the Susan Harter murals under consideration .
The first sample arrived in the most exquisite packaging sealed with wax and ribbon, and included great information cards along with a hand written note.
Many designer wallpaper companies offer classic murals for every occasions. Schumacher, Thibaut, and Scalamandre are a few of the classics, There are also European Brands like Iksel and Zuber .
Rebel Walls is another favorite which has a variety of scenic options in various color ways that can be printed at different scales specific to your space.
No matter your style, there is a mural for you!
