Setting a beautiful table can make everything about a meal better - a visual feast makes the food taste better and the mood more gracious.
Here are some quick and easy ideas to elevate your table for springtime celebrations.
Table linens
I always advocate cloth napkins for sit down occasions…and they are available in such a wide variety of colors and patterns.
For tablecloths, I have white /ivory damask classics, but I often add a topper - either a square tablecloth overlaid on the diagonal, or raid your linen closet and repurpose pretty bedding. Quilts, coverlets, even sheets are all fair game.
Here we used a pretty matelasse coverlet.
Dishes
Mix and match dishes are always more interesting than a full set of matching china, and always layer them, preferably with charger plates as the bottom layer for the best outcome.
Centerpieces and Place settings
Flowers are of course always appropriate - faux or plants or cut flowers all work. Vary up the containers - use teapots or pitchers, shallow oblong or rectangular containers, or baskets.
Raid the grocery store or garden center, or forage in the yard and cut forsythia branches or greens. Bring them inside in the warmth to force them into blooming a bit early for the table.
Scatter candlesticks or votives across the table, add bell jars with seasonal items, or use a collection arranged in varying heights to create a centerpiece.
In addition to something in the center of the table, items at each place setting can double as party favor gifts for guests.
For Easter, my adult family members now get gourmet chocolate.
Place settings with small nests and birds and chocolate eggs make fun favors.
Little boxes or bags with miniature plants and a smattering of candy, or larger individual plants, or even something like gourmet soaps or jarred candles could make a nice place setting addition.
Happy Spring!
